COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course aims at providing student- teachers with an understanding of the value of foreign language study and the role of the foreign language educator and learner. Especial emphasis is placed on the theories of language acquisition and learning, as well as some of the methods and approaches in foreign language teaching.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, the student teacher should be able to:
1. Assess the value of foreign language study.
2. Evaluate the role of the foreign language teacher and learner
3. Apply the learnt theories to the teaching and learning of French and Spanish at the secondary level.
4. Compare and contrast the use and applicability of foreign language teaching methods in Jamaican
classrooms.
